UNDESERVED: A BIBLICAL RESPONSE TO SUFFERING
There are times when life is painful, and these times challenge our faith in God. Where is God in suffering? How does He want us to respond when we suffer? How does He want us to help others who are suffering?
The EQUIP Conference is an annual church-wide event hosted at our church with the aim of blessing LCBC with biblical teaching on a specific, relevant topic. Join us as we hear what God’s Word has to say about suffering from Pastor Roger Chen.
About Pastor Roger Chen
Roger has been the pastor of Grace Church of the Bay Area (GCBA) since it opened its doors in 2011. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from UCLA, a Master of Divinity degree from The Master’s Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.
A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Roger formerly served on staff at Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California before moving to Albania as a missionary seminary professor (where he currently serves as an adjunct professor), pastor, and founding dean of a Bible institute. In 2011, he moved back to California to plant GCBA.
Roger is a bi-vocational pastor working as an independent investor, enjoys writing (having been published in the United States and Europe), and serves on the board of Eastern European Connection, an evangelistic and church planting ministry. Roger’s sermons are broadcast weekly throughout the Bay Area on Saturday mornings and Sunday evenings on radio station KFAX AM 1100.
Roger spends his free time with the love of his life, Jennie, while snuggling their three boys.

Frequently Asked Questions
There will be a small fee of $20 per adult for members of LCBC and $25 per adult for non-members. This will help cover costs for the following:
- Saturday morning snacks
- Saturday lunch
- Resources on biblical response to suffering and other topics, while supplies last
All registration payments for EQUIP are to be made online by credit or debit card when you register. If you are having any technical issues with online payment, please contact us at information@lagunabaptist.org.
We will keep registration open until the day of the EQUIP, but if we get enough registrations where we would max out the room capacity, then we would need to close registration at that point.
On-site childcare is available for kids 3rd grade and under. We will be providing snacks for childcare, but we ask parents to bring snacks for their children if they have any allergy concerns.
We do not plan to live-stream the conference. We encourage everyone to come out in-person for the full-experience.
Mandarin translation will be available. Stay tuned for the location to be announced.
EQUIP is intended primarily for our church family at LCBC. However, we hope we can bless others from other church families as well. To that end, the registration timeframe will be as follows:
- Until May 5: Open registration for all LCBC members and attendees
- May 5 – May 31: Open registration for anyone
Upon arrival, check-in at the registration table in the MPR (the gray and white building) where main events will be hosted. Childcare will be located in the ETC (the red building).
